Let’s Go Exploring!

Can life really be this good? I find myself thinking that again and again.
The kids and I took a walk, exploring our new surroundings. They had perma-grin as they ran from tree to tree (they were never allowed to climb our small trees back home because they were “landscaping”) and from the playground to the river.

They have loved meeting all of the local residents of the campground – and I don’t mean the human kind. They come home with some pictures that are a bit too close up for my comfort. Such as this one of a snake eating a catfish! I think the lens had a smudge on it, but you can still see what is going on.

Some of the other inhabitants are more of my taste – figuratively and literally! The clam that Joshua found was the biggest I had seen! April has caught a ton of catfish, and we have enjoyed a couple of them for dinner. We fried up her first one, and being a natural hunter, she was thrilled to be eating something that she actually provided. The next big one she caught we roasted over the campfire and it was just as delicious.

I sat with Caleb at a park bench and watched my kids congratulate each other on how many skips they could get on the moving water. I know the summer is coming, and it will get blazing hot and muggy. For now, I enjoy the mild days and cool breezes off the river and realize just how good we have it.

I have to laugh to myself whenever we tell someone new that we are living in an RV until our house sells. I don’t tell them just yet that we are actually thinking of living in it even longer… then we would just sound weird. The looks of sympathy that we get make me smile inside, because I know how good our life is right now and how much fun we are having.
